November 1989 - March 1990: Laura and the children live in Virginia apart from Tom for about 8 months while Tom Padgett lives in Lexington Kentucky
1991
August 1991: Tom moves to Michigan, leaving Julie and Beau in Lexington Kentucky with Laura for 11 1/2 months (until the divorce is filed). Tom visits Laura, Julie and Beau roughly once a month. The childred visit him, seperately, occasionally during that year (four visits for Julie, two visits for Beau).
1992
  • 16 July 1992: The house in Kentucky owned by Tom and Laura, in which Laura and the kids have been living apart from Tom, sells.

  • 21-25 July 1992: Laura travels to Michigan and discovers the note with Tom scheduling an adulterous liaison.

  • 29 July 1992: Laura files for divorce in Madisonville Kentucky (Hopkins County)

  • 13 August 1992: Tom Padgett files for divorce in Lexington, Kentucky (Fayette County).

  • 1 September 1992: Laura's reply to Tom Padgett's motion to dismiss the divorce suit.
  • 2 September 1992: The judge rules that venue for the divorce is in Hopkins County.
  • 13 October, 1992: Laura's motion for Padgett to produce financial records he's been hiding.


  • 2 November, 1992: The first of many: one of Tom Padgett's attorneys, Thomas Turner, resigns 3 months and a week into the case. He later sues Padgett for not paying lawyer bills.


  • 5 December, 1992: Tom Padgett answers interrogatories.
  • December 1992: Shirley Padgett (Tom's mother) files a lawsuit against Laura in Florida. Tom Padgett pays his mom's early lawyer fees for this lawsuit.

1993
  • 3 February, 1993: Judge's Orders, including having a bailiff accompany Padgett so he'll sign a document as he promised to.


  • 18 May, 1993: Motion to hold Padgett in contempt for, among other things, not paying medical and dental bills.


  • 29 June, 1993: Judge's orders. Padgett gets a break.
