Carmen

On Monday, I saw Carmen at the Met,
sitting in good seats with my son and his friend,
I slept through half.
On Tuesday, I felt nothing.
On Wednesday, I hummed a tune,
in the morning and in the evening,
I did not know,
On Thursday, I found the Seguidilla and Duet midi on the Internet -
it was a pale ghost of the singers and orchestra
I heard in my sleep on Monday.
As I listened to it, over and over,
my heart danced
even as I realized the joy I missed three days ago
and all the days before.
