Odd Herring Gulls
After puzzling over the
New Jersey Mystery Bird
in early December 1995, I spent a few days at Hatteras about two weeks later. I was on the lookout for any first winter Herring Gulls that resembled the New Jersey bird. I found these (all but the last image). Most I think are indeed Herring Gulls, probably runt females, but this is by no means certain. They also resemble Paul Buckley's Jones Beach bird that appeared in the February 1998 Birding. Comments are welcome.
The last image is a photograph from Tullytown PA, in early April of 1996. Is this a Herring Gull or maybe a Thayer's?

This and the next three are the same bird.
