Hack the DS

Since the DS was released on Novemeber 22nd people have started to hack the DS looking for ways to get it online before X-Link or Warpipes spin of Demasked does it. Personally Ive unmasked lol my DS MAC address while not a historical moment in time its a starting point for bigger and better things. Below Ive put up a screenshot of Netstumbler showing what I saw when I started up Pictochat which is Nintendos embeded software chat program. Click the link below to go to a screenshot of my DS MAC address.

This screen shot points out several things.

1) Theres no encryption , well except RSA.
2) No SSID.
3) The channels used to broadcast on are 7,1 and 13.

DS Scan

There are numorous homebrew orginizations that would like to see the DS go online and Ive posted a few urls for you to check out.

Team Xlink makes progress

Well, the DS has been available for at least 24 hours in the states - and already a number of Kai users and moderators have begun to analyse the protocol the DS uses to wirelessly communicate.

At this point in time, thanks to some awesome input from Blaze and shadowace, I'm happy to say that im 90% sure that we can tunnel the DS, using the existing kaiEngine codebase. We still have a lot of testing and work to do, but I hope to be able to give you the full story as soon as possible :)

Finally, a note for UK Nintendo fans... *do not* accept the fact that when the DS becomes available here, 4 months after everyone else, you will have to pay over 150 GBP (pounds) for it.. more than twice the retail US price. In my opinion, this policy is absolutely disgusting - I just bought my DS on eBay - I paid $230 for it - 7 GBP less then it will cost me in *March* when it's released over here. I'm just glad that some enterprising guy in the USA got my extra dollars - and not Nintendo. Do not let Nintendo rape you for double the retail price on the DS. Buy from a good ebay seller - make a stand against this cynical marketeering.

Woot Woot I found my DS MAC address

I just got the DS today and I decided to play around with it so I decided to fire up Net Stumbler which is a free program from www.netstmbler.com. Net Stumbler helps you find rouge access points or if youre into this sort of thing Wardriving. Anyway I fired up Net Stubmler and turned on my DS and Net Stumbler didnt pick up anything, so I said why would it pick up anything because the DS probably isnt transmitting. I turned on Picto Chat and voila a mysterious MAC address showed up, I replicated the sequence just to make sure it wasnt a fluke or something. needless to say the same MAC address kept popping up. I'll forward this to X-Link and see what they think of it
