Why The Fought

Why They Fought

I think I'm beginning to understand this WAR. We saw an action today that made my heart warm. A group of MARINES disguised as bull frogs sat among the reeds near the salt marsh, ready for anything. In the early evening, a small barge tried to go past our skirmish line. The Frogs attacked and quickly subdued that invader. But it made us proud. The cargo, future SLAVES, were not too tortured and were happy to be freed. We gave them passage to the mainland and they were free to do what they could. I can't help but feel for them - stolen from AFRICA, strange to a new land, without no money or clothes, and not speaking a word of AMERICAN. But at least the NAVY didn't put them to work like the ARMY CONTRABANDS. I sure hope they get home soon.
