This was taken from the Zambian side of the Zambezi River, with Zimbabwe in the background. Our woefully inadequate boat is being subjected to rapid #5, the grade-5 "Stairway to Heaven." Seconds after this image was taken, I and the guy in front of me both ended up somewhere underwater for an unacceptable length of time. I know it looks like I'm smiling, but I'm really mouthing a frantic series of expletives.
