After an agonizing week of endless climbing up the rocky trails
of Nepal's Langtang region--one of the most sparsely settled of Nepal's
main trekking areas--I finally made it to my goal, nearly three miles above
sea level. I was tired, breathless, a bit giddy on lack of oxygen,
and nearly smarmy with self-congratulatory glee.
The white flag to my left is the tip of a prayer flag of a gompa
that, for those few hours, shared its peak with me.
