Sunset at Angkor Wat, the most staggering
temple of the ruined complex that goes by the same name.
Today was Khmer New Year and the 24th anniversary
of Day Zero, when Pol Pot and his cronies cleared the cities and began
exterminating millions. Thousands of people came to Angkor Wat, the symbol
of Cambodia's once-mighty culture, to celebrate the New Year. The skeleton
of a past civilization came alive with the survivors of a recent holocaust.
Everything about Cambodia is stunning.
